Campus Access
Campus Access
About Access
Campus access will be defined by one of four levels to ensure that Barnard remains a welcoming and safe place for our community to live and learn. The primary entrance point for campus is the main gate at 117th Street and Broadway. Details about each level are available below.
Level B is the default access level for campus unless otherwise announced by the College.
The access level will be adjusted to reflect current circumstances and will take into account any information or potential events that could affect the College’s operations. These levels are subject to change based on evolving circumstances.
Current Access Level
Level B
- BC/CU ID is required at all gates and for building access*.
- Pre-registration is required for guests and event attendees; guests must show ID at the main gate upon arrival. Guest permissions are subject to change based on evolving circumstances. Barnard students, faculty, and staff should submit requests at least 24 hours in advance via Workday, and they will be reviewed for approval prior to your guest’s intended arrival.
- The main gate at 116th and Broadway remains the primary check-in point for all registered guests.
- Campus can be accessed with ID via the following entrance points:
- The main gate at 117th Street and Broadway
- The 119th Street and Broadway gate (Use your ID to swipe in Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- External building access (e.g., the Claremont Ave. entrance to Milstein) between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. [These entrances will not be accessible via ID card outside of these hours.]
- For ADA access and accommodations, the CARES community safety officer at the main gate can assist.
- Columbia is currently not permitting students to bring guests on its campus. Barnard is not able to grant exceptions to this policy
